USA and Canada Audition Dates
LIPA Auditions and Interviews in the United States and Canada
Please read all the information on this page.
Since LIPA opened in 1996 we have been welcoming US students. Currently there are 35 US nationals amongst LIPA’s 734 students. LIPA has students from over 35 countries world-wide, who form 30% of our student body. As such, we are used to welcoming international students and understanding their requirements.
Our degree programme are three years long and are similar to an American BFA in that you do not take general education classes in, say, math, psychology and history. Instead, you focus on you chosen discipline and other closely related areas of study.
Our auditions and interviews may be very different from those of other institutions (both in the US and in the UK). We believe collaboration within and across disciplines is important to those entering the performing arts industries and, time permitting, at most of our audition and interview events we ask students to engage in workshops and discussion with other candidates and LIPA staff.
We try to make our audition events as relaxed as possible, which gives us the opportunity to see you as you really are. We also give you the opportunity to ask questions to make sure that LIPA is the right place for you, your abilities and your aspirations.
For the majority of auditions and interviews we expect candidates to have prepared for auditions and interviews in advance using the guidelines we send you.
The major exceptions to this are the Unified Auditions in Chicago, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and New York. See below for more information.
All LIPA interviews and auditions start and end on the same day, we will try to accommodate your travel plans as best we can, if you have a plane to catch or must leave by a certain time please let us know in advance.
We understand that many of you auditioning at the following events will have travelled many miles to met with us. Your attendance is very much appreciated.
Please note that for the majority of auditions and interviews, we expect candidates to have prepared for auditions and interviews in advance, using guidelines sent out by ourselves.
All LIPA interviews and auditions start and end on the same day.
Auditions/interviews for 2012 entry for all Acting programmes, plus additional interviews for Theatre & Performance Design/Theatre & Performance Technology and Music, Theatre and Entertainment Management entry.
Event Details: Attendance at Unified Auditions alongside other auditioning US and UK institutions.
The event is an open audition event and pre-application is not necessary although it is recommended that candidates bring prepared audition pieces/portfolios with them. Candidates can elect to follow LIPA’s specific guidelines (a Shakespeare monologue from a set list, a musical theater song and a devised piece) and earn brownie points in the process(!) or a standard audition comprising of a classical monologue, a contemporary monologue and a musical theater song.
