We were founded in 1995, and quickly became one of Europe’s leading centres for the training of performers and those who make performance possible. Each year we receive over 4000 applications for just 250 places across our Dance, Music, Acting, Community Drama, Sound Technology, Arts and Music Business Management and Technical Theatre/Design programmes. Over 40 nationalities are included amongst the LIPA student body of 800 students.
Our dance philosophy is to provide students with the technique, creativity, understanding and professional awareness to sustain a career in dance.
Our training encompasses, jazz dance, contemporary, dance fusions, choreography and musical theatre.
LIPA degrees are globally recognised. Students focus solely on dance and related disciplines for three years and do not take any liberal arts/general education classes. Studying at LIPA you will gain vocational, professional and cost effective training and be ready to start your career one year earlier than your peers in the US.
We are affiliated with the US Department of Education and so you may be eligible for Federal Financial Aid to help with fund your study.
With over 30% of our students coming from outside of the UK, we have a lot of experience dealing with International students and will help you with every step a long the way. More information about studying in the UK can be found on our International page; www.lipa.ac.uk/international

Your Passion, Our Passion
At LIPA, we place a real emphasis upon collaboration. We think it's one of the things which makes us truly distinctive. Seven was a collaborative end of year performance project for dancers, musicians and designers, whose central theme was the seven ascending levels of physical consciousness as symbolised by the chakra points and the stylistic approach was Eastern and Western cultural fusion.
One of our companions, Nitin Sawhney, the award winning musician, producer and composer was approached by the Dance department to help inspire the production. He spent a day with us in the early stages of the project, helping Dance and Music students explore the themes, specifically the spiritual nature of classical Indian music. The students embraced and developed his ideas, incorporating them into the performance and design elements of the show.
