Learning Services - Collections Information - DVD Collection

The LRC has a growing and exciting DVD collection amounting to over a thousand titles. The collection is situated on the upper floor with all DVDs available to loan for a 7 day period. The collection has been carefully developed to incorporate all aspects of the performing arts and is a valuable resource to students on all programmes. The collection consists of off-air recordings, pre-recorded DVDs and iIn house student productions. All DVDs can be located using the LRC online catalogue (IPAC) and can be searched for by title, subject, performer or director etc.

Viewing

All DVDs can be viewed or copied (subject to copyright) in the LRC. There are three DVD/video presenters located on the lower floor for student use. Remote controls are available from the LRC desk.

Off-air Recordings

The LRC has a licence from the Educational Recording Agency which enables us to record programmes broadcast on terrestrial television for educational purposes only. Programmes are selected each week to support the curriculum at LIPA.The collection consists of:

This collection is being developed for you so help us to tailor it to your needs. If you feel that a particular programme to be broadcast on television would be useful for an assignment or project you are working on, you are welcome to request that the LRC record the programme to add to the collection.

Pre-recorded Videos and DVD's

The LRC has a growing collection of pre-recorded videos and DVDs which are produced externally and consists of:

These videos are subject to strict copyright restrictions and copying a small part of them may be in breach of copyright law.

In-House Student Productions

The LRC has a popular collection of student productions and course assessements performed by LIPA students. For a complete list of our holdings search under LRC Student in-house Productions under the series tag on the IPAC. The LRC aims to have a complete holding of Major Performance Projects, LIPA Fest productions and Collaborative Performance Projects.

The LRC holds DVD Master Copies of productions so if you have difficulty locating a particular production please ask at the LRC desk, if we do not have a copy we will do our best to obtain a copy for the collection.

LIPA owns copyright on all student productions so students can make copies of these tapes.

All Movie Guide

Comprehensive movie database with detailed film descriptions, actors biographies, essays on film genres and film history as well as a useful glossary of terms.

Apollo Movie Guide
A good website for film summaries, reviews and cast information

British Film Institute
Contains a wide range of information on the film and media industry in the UK. Includes the National Film and Television Archive.

British Board of Film Classification
A searchable website that provides details of the certification of films, videos and DVD's

BBC
A large searchable website covering BBC1, BBC2 and Radio 1,2,3,4 and 5. Gives full television and radio listings.

British Universities Film and Video Council
The BUFVC supports the production and use of film, television and othe audio visual materials for teaching and research.

Britfilms.com
Website contains two databases of the Film and Television Department of the British Council, The British Films Catalogue and the Directory of International Film and Video Festivals.

Broadcast Production Guide
Television production website which includes the Broadcasters Audience Research Board's (BARB) ratings

Cinema in Europe
A collection of histories of film production and exhibitions covering most European countries. Contains an on-line database of European cinema

Drew's Script O Rama
Provides alphabetical list of film and television scripts available on line

European Cinema - Resources Guide
A useful site with good links to sites holding information on European cinema. Arranged by country and includes links to Film Institutes, European Directors, Film Museums and Film Databases.

FilmSound.org
Online articles on all aspects of film sound, theory and history.

Film Stars & their Salaries
Site organised by decade lists the influential film stars of the day and the salary they could command

Internet Movie Database
A huge database of information on the movie industry.

The Knowledge on-line
Provides information for the film and television industry with a database of over 15,600 companies and crew, searchable by name, company, location and keyword.

Media References Sources & Information
A useful gateway to information sources on film, television and video

National Video Archive of Performance
The Victoria & Albert Museum in London holds a growing video archive of live stage performances which can be viewed on the premises for educational and research purposes.

Vision + Media
Provides information on local film offices in the North West, with details of productions and film events in the area.
