Graduates Conference: Previous Conferences

The Arts Management Graduate Conference first started in 2004. Over the years, management graduates have returned to present to the current students, lecturers and other faculty. Graduates' experiences of life after LIPA have varied enormously, giving different perspectives throughout the entire arts industry.

Adam Burgan

Adam graduated from LIPA in 2003 and took on the role of Marketing Manager in The Music Hall, Shewsbury.  In 2004 Adam was involved in the opening of The Old Market Hall Film & Digital Media Centre – an Ancient Scheduled Monument which is now home to an 81-seat luxury cinema, café bar and gallery.  In 2006 Adam was promoted to Programme and Marketing Manager taking on responsibility for programming a venue, Theatre Severn.  Adam has been heavily involved in the development of the new theatre which was opened in 2008. The Theatre Severn has a 650 Main Auditorium, a 250 seated/500 standing Walker Theatre, dance studio, restaurant, bars and gallery. The opening season saw West-End musicals like Blood Brothers, Cabaret and Disney’s Beauty and the Beast visiting Shropshire for the first time.  Adam has also spent time on the Boards of Blue Eyed Soul Dance Company and Border Dance.  

 

Simone Dollmann

After graduating from LIPA Simone went on to work for a film and music production company in Berlin, Germany, before moving to Salzburg to study for a Masters Degree in International Media Management.

Whilst studying in Salzburg she worked for a music consultancy, and, in the summer of 2003, did PR and Event Management for the Universal Music label Deutsche Grammophon during the Salzburg Music Festival. Subsequently, she became the Public Relations Manager for Universal Classics in Berlin, where she was responsible for the campaigns of musicians such as Sting, Elvis Costello, Anne-Sophie Mutter and Gustavo Dudamel.

At the beginning of 2008 Simone moved to London to work for the Decca Music Group at their head offices, where her role as Senior International Marketing and Promotion Manager involves coordinating global campaigns for Decca's large roster of classical musicians.


Vanessa Richardson

Vanessa completed her dissertation on Branding and went on to graduate from LIPA in 2001.   After moving to London she embarked on a work placement with the Advertising Agency M&C Saatchi.  Shortly after she moved to the publishing firm EMAP (now Bauer) where she worked in the sales department on ‘Q’, ‘Mojo’ and ‘Empire’ magazins.
A year later Vanessa moved into the Client Services department where she was working with bigger advertisers.  Such as, Warner Records, Universal, Napster, HMV, Virgin, Sony, EMI and a variety of independent labels and distributers.  The portfolio included The Face, Smash Hits, Mixmag, Q, Mojo, Kerrang, Empire, FHM, Arena, Pop and Zoo, she worked to build creative solutions for advertisers through working with their media buying agencies to plan media across TV, Online, Press and Radio.  Vanessa was also involved with Project Phoenix (a research piece) which studied the changing patterns of music consumer behaviour.  In addition Vanessa, managed the commercial side of the official Glastonbury Program which was part of the yearly Q Magazine Sponsorship.  Before Vanessa left EMAP (Bauer), she helped arrange sponsorships across the board for the brands, meaning she was involved with all of the yearly Awards Events such as the Smash Hits Poll Winners Party, Mojo Awards, Kerrang Awards and the Q Awards. 
In 2007 Vanessa moved to Google as an Accounts Manager in the Entertainment and Media team.  At Google Vanessa was again working with similar clients as when she had been at EMAP (Bauer), however, this time they encompassed gaming clients such as EA and Activision and film clients such as, Universal Pictures, Paramount and Warner.
A year ago Vanessa was promoted to Industry Manger where she is an Entertainment Specialist for Google, YouTube and EMEA. 

 

Julie Morgan

Following Julies graduation from LIPA in 2002 she began a 12 month graduate placement with BMG Records in London. The position was based in regional radio promotions and involved working on campaigns from Westlife, Will Young to Kings of Leon and Foo Fighters.   In 2004 Julie began working for SJM a concert promoter for live music and one of the leading concert promoters in the UK.   They have recently broken all UK box office records for the fastest selling UK tour in history for Take That: The Circus Live, with over a million tickets sold. Julie was initially employed to work within the office administration department.  However, eight months later Julie was promoted to Marketing Manager.  Julie’s job involves working and implementing on sale plans, radio, advertising and all aspects of promotion and marketing on our tours.  SJM’s roster is diverse and includes various artists from across the genres such as The Killers, Arctic Monkeys ACDC, Courteeners, Coldplay to Il Divo, Pussycatdolls and Take That to name a few.

 

Jonathan Deamer

Jonathan so enjoyed his time in Liverpool while at LIPA that he continued to live here after he completed his studies in May of 2008.  Jonathan completed his Arts Manager placement at local music publishing company Sentric, where upon graduating he began working full time for its parent company, Livewire.  Through Livewire Jonathan has been able to be involved in a wide variety of things: a residential “Innovation Lab” with the BBC to develop new ideas for their online TV system iPlayer, creating social media marketing concepts for the major record labels, writing successful funding bids to the government's Technology Strategy Board and being afforded the glamorous opportunity to lark around town dressed as a gorilla while filming a viral video for MTV.
Recently, Jonathan has begun to focus on one Livewire company in particular, becoming a Project Manager at digital marketing agency Creative Cultures. Here he is working primarily with online music and entertainment services; previous clients in this area include Peter Gabriel's music streaming service We7.

 

Oliver Tuercke

After Oliver’s graduation in 2007, he started as International Business Analyst at PRS for Music.  In this role he provided market insights and revenue analysis on Central and Eastern European territories. He also contributed to "Understanding and Interpreting the Digital Market", a paper by Will Page, Chief Economist at PRS for Music and Gabriela Lopes, Research Director at IFPI.  As International Executive, Oliver is now looking after PRS for Music's business relations with collecting societies in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and a handful of Eastern European territories. He is in charge of British song-writing royalties worth over £20m per year. In both his roles he has been on business trips to Berlin, Vienna, Prague, Belgrade, Bucharest, etc.
