We’re interested in your ability in Dance, as well as your potential and commitment to pursuing a career in the performing arts. We take a holistic approach to assessing you and consider five factors, which are:
These requirements are the same as for our Dance degree programme, so at GCSE, you need five GCSE passes at a minimum grade C or above. These should include Maths and English Language. You would also usually be educated to A-Level or have equivalent UK or overseas qualifications and should normally achieve 160 to 280 UCAS tariff points.
You may have undertaken dance training in some or all of the dance styles and techniques that we cover in the programme but that’s not essential to us. More important is that you are able to demonstrate confidence in performance and that you can bring personality to your performance.
Interdisciplinary experience and/or interest
By this we mean experience or interest in other aspects of performing arts (such as acting, singing or backstage).
As these are so important in performing arts, your ability to communicate effectively is essential.
We are looking for examples that show us your ability to use your own initiative.
We recognise a wide variety of qualifications obtained overseas and are able to translate overseas grades and transcripts to UK equivalents. If you are uncertain about whether your qualifications are at the correct level and grades, as a member of UK NARIC, we can quickly advise you on this.
If English is not your first language, you may be asked at your interview or audition stage to provide evidence of your linguistic ability. We accept a variety of English Language tests for study at our Foundation Certificate and degree level programmes. If you are entering the UK on a student visa (tier 4), your language test scores must meet the minimum standards set by the UK Border Agency (UKBA). Please note that test scores must be achieved from one sitting of the relevant qualification. We will not accept individual component scores from multiple tests. For more information about the English Language tests and scores, please contact the International Team.
