Learning Resources Centre
The LRC holds a specialised collection of books, CDs, videos, DVDs, journals and newspapers to support the programmes of study on offer at LIPA. CDs, scores, videos and DVDs can be borrowed for seven days. Books can be borrowed for either 28 or seven days.
There is on-line access to a wide range of databases and journals and other reference resources. Our user-friendly on-line catalogue provides the gateway. Other facilities include video/DVD presenters, photocopying, spiral binding and laminating equipment. The LRC also includes an ICT area with 39 PCs. All with internet access and DVD drives.
The LRC is also a WIFI Zone, allowing you to connect to the LIPA network from your laptop. The LRC also has a dedicated accessibility PC, this includes speech recognition software, JAWS software for the visually impaired and the Kurzweil scanning programme which allows text to be scanned into the PC and read back to the user. All LIPA PCs come with Read & Write software as standard, this is particularly useful for Dyslexic users, or anyone who requires help with their literacy skills. The Learning Services Department can help you with ICT and study skills.
Learning Services provide a wide range of help sheets and can offer half hour one to one tutorials. The LRC ICT area also has a dedicated helpdesk staffed from 9am - 5pm by members of the Learning Services and ICT departments.
