Arts Manager Module
Module: Arts Manager Placement
.Music, Theatre and Entertainment Management students take the Arts Manager Module during their third year.
The module requires students to carry out a two to three month full-time work placement at a company operating within an area of the entertainment industry which reflects their individual career aspirations. Students are there to manage discrete projects, not merely to contribute to administration or the day-to-day running of the organisation.
Students are encouraged to arrange their own placements, though they are provided with assistance by tutors where necessary, including contacts with potential placement companies. Previous placements include the Royal Opera House, Comic Relief, Universal Music, Birmingham Royal Ballet, Sony Music, QDOS, Warner Music Norway, Live Nation, Northern Broadsides Theatre Company, Pippa Ailion Casting, PRS for Music, Women in Film and TV and Sentric Music.
What happened next?
LIPA students Lance O'Meara and Becky Boyce found placements with Comic Relief. Lance describes his experience:
"I worked as an Artist Liaison Team Assistant for Comic Relief for my Arts Manager placement.
From planning celebrity photoshoots to recruiting A-list stars to take part in high-profile Sport Relief challenges and events, my time working on the Sport Relief campaign was exciting and unforgettable.
Liaising with celebrities on a regular basis, the placement taught me how to conduct myself professionally as well as providing me with the chance to network with some of the UK's most important entertainment agents."
LIPA Graduates at Comic Relief
LIPA Graduates Dean Swift and Holly Monks have gone on to work at Comic Relief. Dean describes his role:
"As Artist Liaison Officer at Comic Relief, I am part of the team that is responsible for casting, managing and nurturing relationships with all artists and agents for the charities two national bi-annual campaigns, Red Nose Day and Sport Relief.
From photo shoots and TV shows to project visits, the role is very varied.
It has been great to have had the opportunity to work alongside fellow MTEM students/graduates in a professional environment.
I think we all appreciate how the practical experience and networking opportunities gained at LIPA have helped us to feel confident when working on such high profile campaigns."
