The Sound Technology course here couldn't be more appropriate: the vast array of topics are taught in great detail and to a very high standard. The equipment we use is of the highest quality and mirrors what you'd expect to see in the real world. You progress to find your own direction and ambition, setting you up nicely for graduation and the world of work. There are strong industry links and you can gain outside experience with organisations as part of your studies. I've worked at the Liverpool Arena and Convetion Centre and hope to go on tour when I finish this summer.

Experience

We are looking for evidence of your experience in at least one if not more of the following fields: music recording, live sound work, sound design in theatre or sound installation work, radio production. We need to know what roles you have played in these and what equipment you have worked with. Home recording using computer-based systems is acceptable. We prefer candidates who can demonstrate a breadth of experience in several areas, and experience that is not confined to school or college course work. We recognise that not all geographic areas offer such possibilities. In those cases signs of commitment and enterprise in seeking work and performance experience will also support your application.

Interdisciplinary experience

Some of our students are also musicians. That is not essential but an appreciation of music is. Other examples of interdisciplinary experience might be lighting experience, VJing, DJing, design (such as web and animation work), organising gigs, band promotion. All candidates should be able to demonstrate interest and knowledge in other art forms.

Communication skills

As communications skills are so important in the performing arts industry, the ability to communicate effectively is essential for this degree programme.

Enterprise

We are looking for evidence that you are able to work on your own initiative. Good examples may be projects you have been involved with that are not part of your school qualifications.
