Guidance for applying to UCAS

UCAS stands for the Universities and Colleges Admissions Services. It only accepts applications online. You will find comprehensive guidance at www.ucas.com to help you through the process of submitting an application. Further advice and guidance is available from the UCAS Customer Service Unit on +44 (0)871 468 0 468, Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 18:00.
The application fee for this service in 2009/2010 was £19 if applying to more than one university or £9 for one university choice.

UCAS application codes

When completing the UCAS application form online you need to provide certain codes as follows:

LIPA’s institution code is LIVIN

Our institution number is L48

Each degree programme has a code number and abbreviation

How many programmes can I apply to?

On your UCAS form you can apply for up to five choices of undergraduate programmes. You are welcome to apply to more than one degree programme at LIPA.

You can also apply to a LIPA certificate course at the same time that you apply to a degree programme here, but you will need to complete all sections of the LIPA application form.

What happens if I miss the deadline for applying?

There is a high demand for places at LIPA, so if you miss these deadlines please contact the Admissions Team, who will advise you if there are any remaining places, after the above deadlines.

Do you take deferred entry?

Deferred entry is not accepted on any of our programmes. You need to apply in the same academic year that you wish to study here. So, if you want to start your studies in September 2012, you should apply between 1st September 2011 and 15th January 2012.

What happens after you have applied?

We assess your application(s) very carefully against our entry criteria and decide whether or not to invite you to an audition or interview event.

We do not audition/interview everyone who applies, so it is important that you take the time to complete your application(s) to the best of your ability.

If we are inviting you to attend an audition or interview, we will send you guidelines to help you to prepare.

Auditions and interviews for UK applicants are held at LIPA in Liverpool.

After the audition/interview for one of our degree programmes, UCAS will contact you to inform you about our decision. You can also check on our website at www.ucas.ac.uk

After the audition for one of our certificate programmes, we will contact you direct to inform you about our decision.

There are four possible outcomes following an audition/interview for any of our programmes:

• An unconditional offer of a place
• An offer conditional upon exam results or further work to be assessed
• An offer to a different programme to the one that you applied to such as a Foundation Certificate programme
• A notification that your application has been unsuccessful

For the LIPA Certificate in Popular Music and Sound Technology, we usually offer places based on the LIPA application form and demo you have sent us, without asking to see you in person at an audition.

Our decision will be final. Unfortunately, we cannot supply feedback to unsuccessful candidates about applications or auditions/interviews. In many cases, a lack of success is due to the level of competition for places rather than any specific weakness. Consequently, we are unable to advise applicants on how to strengthen any future applications.

Audition/interview information for applicants living overseas

As we hold a number of auditions and interviews outside of the UK, we will notify you about your nearest audition/interview venue. Sometimes the closest venue might be in Liverpool. You are always welcome to attend a Liverpool audition/interview if you prefer to do that, rather than one held overseas.

For those applicants living outside the EU, that cannot attend an overseas or Liverpool audition/interview, we may ask you to provide additional information or evidence to help us with our selection. Depending on which programme you are applying to this may be a DVD, audio tape or portfolio. You will receive detailed guidelines to help you prepare this.

Disabled or deaf students or those with a learning difficulty, such as dyslexia
