  • 'Member of LIPA’ shall be interpreted to mean any student, beneficiary, retired staff, teaching, administrative, clerical, technical or manual member of staff of LIPA and members of the LIPA Council.
  • Learning Resources Centre (LRC) shall be understood to refer to any designated Learning Resources Centre, Library or Computer facility under the administration of Learning Support.
  • Use of LIPA’s computer facilities will also be subject to the IT Regulations.
  • Any user may make representation on the regulations in force and on the use of LRC to the Learning Services Manager.

  • All members of LIPA are entitled to use the LRC upon being issued with a valid identity card.
  • The act of enrolling in LIPA constitutes an undertaking to accept Learning Resources Centre regulations and the IT Conditions of Use. Staff employed by LIPA have also agreed to abide by LIPA, and thus, Learning Support regulations.

Borrowing Facilities and Procedures

  • Each person entitled to borrow will be issued with an identity card which must be produced whenever an item is borrowed. Cards are not transferable and all items issued via them are the responsibility of the person to whom they were issued. Users are strongly advised not to lend borrowed items to other members.
  • The number of items permitted to be borrowed and the period of loan will be as determined from time to time by the Learning Services Manager as most appropriate for the type of material, or category of user. Information on loan periods will be available at the LRC and in printed guides.
  • ‘Short Loan’ material is issued under the rules in force at that time. Some material will not be loaned.
  • Reference material may be borrowed at the discretion of senior LRC staff.
  • LRC staff may refuse to lend or renew any item, or where an item is in heavy demand may restrict the loan period.
  • 28 day, 7 day and 1 day loans may normally be renewed for a further period if not required by another member.
  • Loan renewal requests may be by direct application to staff on issue counters, by post, telephone or email. The maximum number of renewals when the item is not presented is five.
  • Whenever an item is recalled by LRC staff the reader must return the item promptly.
  • LIPA charges fines on overdue materials, and all LIPA students and staff are liable to pay fines accrued on overdue materials.
  • Students must return all items on loan and settle any outstanding financial obligations, before the end of their period of study.
  • Items may be borrowed for the vacations by users returning to LIPA the following semester.
  • As cards are not transferable any member will be held responsible for any loss or damage to materials issued on such cards.
  • Upon leaving the LRC users are requested to satisfy staff that any Learning Resources property being taken out has been properly recorded. They may be required to reveal the contents of any bag, briefcase, pockets, etc.
  • A loan record must be originated for any item borrowed. It is the borrower's responsibility to ensure that the loan record is cancelled when the item is returned.
  • Users may reserve items which are not immediately available for loan.
  • Items may be returned to the LRC by post, provided they are adequately wrapped.
  • Any member having a sufficient reason for requiring an item not in stock may request that it be obtained through the Inter Library Loans (ILL) Service. Items so borrowed are subject to the conditions imposed by the lender library and may be subject to a charge.
