
This Tony Award winning, Broadway play that deals with politics, religion and AIDS is set in New York in the mid-1980s. Its intertwining plots tell of Mormon and Republican law clerk Joe Pitt struggling to come to terms with his sexuality as he deals with his Valium addicted, agoraphobic wife. In the same city, a neurotic, gay, Jew, Louis is struggling to come to terms with his partner, Prior Walter’s illness, a new and relatively unknown disease called AIDS. As the play progresses Prior's deterioration leads them to places of fantastical revelation and discoveries which will change their lives forever.
The first of a two-part epic play, Angels In America deals with very real and difficult issues that reflect on an important period in American history. Its author, Tony Kushner has been hailed as one of the most important contributors to theatre history of our time.
