The course is designed for adults with a serious commitment to developing their skills as an actor. It explores the fundamental processes of acting. You are encouraged to build a process as an actor that eliminates self-consciousness in performance and creates a psychologically believable reality for an audience. Through practical scene work, you develop your understanding of the concepts of 'tasks', 'motivation', 'obstacles', and 'tactics' as the basis of building a credible acting performance. You also have the opportunity to develop first stage scene analysis from the actor's point of view. The course, whilst not adopting any set approach, is rooted in the ideas of Stanislavski as they have been developed throughout the 20th/21st century as the basis for actor training.
Entry requirements
We welcome individuals over the age of 18. You need to be willing to fully engage with the subject and work and learn collaboratively. If you are aged between 18 and 21, you should have studied a Level 3 qualification (such as A-Levels or BTEC National Diploma) but we don't specify subjects or grades. If you are over 21 and have not studied a Level 3 qualification, we would expect you to have some recent acting experience. We are looking for some ability in acting so you are generally expected to take part in a workshop audition. Click here for audition dates.
