This course is designed for actors who wish to develop their devising skills. With the emphasis firmly placed upon improvisation and game-play, students are provided with the basic theory and a wide range of tools and techniques so they can approach narrative devising using a variety of contexts and styles. You will be narrating, improvising and creating stories from the first session onwards. Most sessions will begin with structured warm-ups, plus improvisation and gameplay to free the imagination and encourage appropriate working practice. The course begins with an analysis of story types and story sources, it also introduces you to structural devices and linking devices for groups of stories (ranging from animal study to using objects as a starting point). Narrative techniques will be covered and there will also be time allocated to the rehearsal of created pieces.
