The Musical Theatre course is for those with a particular commitment to developing their skills as a singing actor for musical theatre. The focus of the work will be in developing a secure thought process behind acting through song, and developing a song for audition purposes. Whilst there will be some emphasis on physical aspects of performance, there is no 'dance' element as such. Students will also be given a method of analysing both lyric and musical text as a blueprint for performance. The aim is to eliminate self-consciousness and provide clarity in performance. Students accepted onto the course will require a personal voice recorder of some kind.

Entry requirements

We welcome individuals over the age of 18 with some experience of performing musical theatre and a strong singing voice. You need to be willing to fully engage with the subject and work and learn collaboratively. If you are aged between 18 and 21, you should have studied a Level 3 qualification (such as A-Levels or BTEC National Diploma) but we don't specify subjects or grades. If you are over 21 and have not studied a Level 3 qualification, we would expect you to have some recent musical theatre experience. We are looking for some ability in musical theatre so you are generally expected to take part in an audition. Click here for audition dates.
