This course is designed for anyone who wishes to enhance the use and control of their voice, as an actor, public speaker or teacher. It covers the anatomical and physiological working of the voice and how to maintain a healthy voice. It aims to release and expand your vocal instrument and to enhance and develop your external expression. The physical connection between body, breath, voice and speech is emphasised, as well as the development of a vocal process that will lead to effective and safe communication. Topics covered include defining vowels and consonants sounds, addressing common errors of speech, understanding the verbal dynamic. We work from a variety of texts and use exercises to develop sight reading and diction in read and memorised texts. The majority of this course is practical with the occasional lecture/demonstration. The classes are generally noisy and lots of fun. This is not for shrinking violets.
